MEETING MINUTES FOR JANUARY 7, 2009

Meeting called to order at 7:02 pm by Courtney Nash, President.

PARKS & REC
Amy reported the background checks came back fine.


WEBSITE
No report.

BASKETBALL
Jim reported that practices resumed this week after the holidays. February 27 will be the make up day for the games that were cancelled due to snow from December 19 if enough there are enough places to play. Tournaments will begin afterwards.
Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, January 13, at 6:00 pm in Liberty Elementary cafeteria. Jim also reported that teams may be ranked differently next year as some coaches are not happy with the current ranking system.

SOFTBALL
Jim reported the league met and discussed rules for 2010. A U-18 team may be formed, beginning after the high school season and going through to July. There will be a meeting on Monday night to discuss fees for this year.

BASEBALL
Roger reported he went to the NorthEast meeting on December 8. Discussion was a Sunday travel league, with 11/12 yr. olds. A 7/8 , 9/10 yr. old team may be formed, depending on the interest. They will use Mount St. Mary’s for practice time. Roger would like to have a “coaching clinic” for parents who don’t know how to coach but show interest. Roger would like to host a tournament for 7/8 and 9/10 at Libertytown Park and use our new concession. He will solicit parents to help work. Roger also reported the 11/12 state tournament will be held at Utica Park.

OLD BUSINESS
Courtney received the plaque for Jake.

Courtney reported the building at the school is complete and ready for inspection. Frederick County said we need a fire extinguisher and a sign that reads “storage shed”. Courtney would like to purchase another fire extinguisher for the building at the Park. Roger made a motion for Courtney to purchase to 2 fire extinguishers. Connie second, motion passed. Courtney asked Mr. Summers to touch up the front corner and to bring a roller and fix the fields. The fence and gates were not put back; Courtney would like to move the gates and fence to the front of the building. Roger made a motion for Courtney to get 3 estimates to move the gates and to put the fence back together in front of the new building at the school and to proceed with the lowest bid. Jim second, motion passed.

Courtney reported that there will be a work session meeting regarding our lease for the concession stand at the park with the County Commissioners on February 23 at 8:30 am. Paul Dial asked that Courtney be present.

Nothing has begun with the storage building at the park.

Courtney called the state’s attorney regarding John Berger and Nick Edwards. Both are in violation of their probation. John Berger had court today and did not show up; there is a warrant for his arrest. Nick Edwards requested a jury trial which will be at a later date. Courtney was told LRC may never see restitution.

Courtney reported the p.o. box 341 will be good for 18 months.
Courtney is still waiting for 1 more bid for a new sign.
Courtney will begin building shelves at the building at the school.

Connie designed 2 letterheads for LRC. Brenda made a motion to use the letterhead without the picture. Roger second, motion passed. Discussion followed to use a black border with red lettering, or vice versa; a black border with green lettering. Connie will bring samples to the next meeting.

Connie showed a copy of the newsletter that will be mailed out.

Connie reported the Easter Egg Hunt will be on March 20 at 10:30 am at Libertytown Park. The girl scouts will be running it.

NEW BUSINESS
Regarding scholarships, Connie will add what sport and what year the student played for LRC.

Jim asked anyone who is available to help at the registration.

Roger was asked to advertise the registration in the Frederick News Post and the Gazette.

Connie spoke with the Liberty Elementary School principal regarding fliers to be sent out for registration. She said the fliers must be in batches of 25, delivered on Thursday morning for Friday folders for 17 classes.

Courtney reported bulk mail stamp bill of $185.00 is due on 1/21/10. Bulk mail is now mailed out from the main post office on Patrick Street.

Courtney called Pepsi to return the cooler. Waiting to hear back from them.

Courtney asked for input as to what to do with the Gatorade cooler. Cathy will inquire if the fire department can use it.

Courtney received an invitation to the fire hall banquet for Saturday, 1/23/10. He asked if anyone was available to attend. Connie took the invite and will RSVP. She may attend.
Roger received an email for fundraising from Babe Ruth selling candy bars. LRC is not interested.

Cathy asked about selling t-shirts and sweatshirts. There may be interest if we sell them in the concession stand at the park. Cathy will head up ordering tshirts and sweatshirts. Brenda made a motion that Cathy order 5 of each: green tshirts with gray lettering, green hooded sweatshirts with gray lettering; gray tshirts with green lettering, gray hooded sweatshirts with green lettering in sizes youth medium, youth large, adult medium, adult large and adult xlarge. Roger second, motion passed.

Kathy will help Lou Ann stock the concession stand.

Next meeting February 4; snow date February 11.
