BASKETBALL

MINUTES

week after the holidays. February 27 will be the make up day for
the games that were cancelled due to snow from December 19 if enough
there are enough places to play. Tournaments will begin afterwards.
Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, January 13, at 6:00 pm in Liberty Elementary
cafeteria. Jim also reported that teams may be ranked differently next year as
some coaches are not happy with the current ranking system.

2009
Jim reported that the season started
on 12/5 but some games were cancelled as a result of the snow emergency
that went into effect. He also reported that a 19 yr.-old was ejected
from a game and must show up at the next game to sit it out. Courtney
reported that the card keys were not being returned; Jim will email
the coaches.
MINUTES
FROM NOVEMBER 5, 2009
• Jim reported that there is a coaches information meeting on November
10 at the YMCA.
• The first game is December 5. Games will be played for 3 weekends in
December, then breaking for holidays with games starting again January 9. The
season ends
around February 20 with playoffs following.
• Everything has been ordered.
• Background checks have been given to Amy.
MINUTES
FROM OCTOBER 1, 2009
Jim reported that 108 kids signed up: 75 boys/23 girls for basketball and 10
cheerleaders. Now we will be looking for coaches. There is a coaches meeting
on 10/20. At the last MVBA meeting, it was decided that they cannot force
anyone to attend the referee clinics. If an organization feels that their
refs are competent, than they can use their referees. Jim has a company that
will provide the reversible jerseys.
MINUTES FROM
SEPTEMBER 3, 2009
Jim reported that Jake went to the MVBA meeting. The league wants to make some
changes. One change is that the league wanted to change the rules for U-10 and
U-12 to reflect more like the high school rules. It will most likely be voted
down. Another change is the league is asking all organizations to order reversible
jerseys. The MVBA wants all referees to go to a 5-day training course. It will
be held one night per week over 5 weeks. At the end of it, the referees will
then ref a tournament basketball game where they will be critiqued. They will
have to take a written test and if they pass, they will be certified to ref games.
There is another meeting at the end of the month where more discussion will take
place. Questions brought up were the possibility of refs not wanting to take
the class, will they allow our refs to ref a game; will they bring in their own
refs; possibility of removing all home games so our refs are not used. Jim also
reported that at the end of 8 games, the teams will be seeded for the tournament
; they will not reevaluate teams after 5 games. Jim also said that we need sponsors.
Discussion followed on how to solicit for them. Jim will put up signs at the
registration asking for sponsorships. For $250, the sponsor name will be put
on the back of the shirt. More discussion for sponsors at the next meeting.
